A weekend stay at ambassador hotel: downtown kansas city review

Are you planning a trip to Kansas City soon? Have you checked out Ambassador Hotel KC for your stay?

This blog post was made in collaboration with Ambassador Hotel Kansas City and all opinions are my own.

Through Date Ideas and Things to Do KC, I have been bringing my community on a journey throughout my hometown as I document experiences for everyone to enjoy. My passion for photography and content creation has merged into a fun new hobby that I get to pursue throughout the year.

This is my first time partnering with Ambassador Hotel Kansas City and wow, what an experience it was!

I have been a longtime lover of jazz, introduced to me by my late grandfather. When Ambassador Hotel KC mentioned Lonnie’s Reno Jazz Club located in their hotel, I couldn’t pass up this opportunity to document my experience!

Meet Ambassador Hotel KC

Located in Downtown Kansas City, Ambassador Hotel KC is just a 25 minute drive from MCI Airport and a 5 minute walk from the Kansas City Power & Light District. You can walk to the streetcar stop and get to the River Market, Crossroads District and Library District in just a few minutes. This hotel is also a short drive from the Country Club Plaza with shopping, restaurants and surrounding museums like the Nelson Atkins Museum and Kemper Contemporary Art Museum.

3 Highlights from Ambassador Hotel Kansas City

Highlight #1: The American Reserve restaurant was delicious!

The American Reserve is a restaurant and lounge located in the main level of the hotel. The restaurant serves New American cuisine in a cozy, sophisticated space that begs to be visited by couples, friends or even solo. Their menu is stacked with mouth watering appetizers, entrees and desserts with a robust selection of cocktails, wines and spirits to accompany your meal.

I chose the shrimp & grits dish which satisfied my cravings in the best ways. It was buttery, packed with flavor and the perfect portion for me to not feel guilty eating such a good meal!

In the morning, I was able to call room service for their breakfast. As a simple girl, I chose a traditional breakfast that truly made my morning! The fruit was so fresh, the orange juice was perfection and the traditional breakfast felt like a warm hug.

Highlight #2: Lonnie’s Reno Club

Are there any other words to describe Lonnie’s other than: A-M-A-Z-I-N-G

If you’re from Kansas City or know about us, you know we are the city of Jazz. Lonnie’s Reno Club transported us into a 1920/30’s prohibition style club in the basement of Ambassador Hotel Kansas City and I didn’t want to leave!

Lonnie’s Reno Club starts you off with a welcome cocktail and a three course meal to follow as you are serenaded by classics from Count Basie to Louis Armstrong. The audience was electric and the energy exchange between Lonnie and the crowd was beautiful, to say the least. As a former musician and performer, there is nothing better than a crowd who pulls you in and cheers you on throughout the entire set.

The KC75 (to the far right) was their twist on a traditional French 75 and paired perfectly with my caesar salad, beef wellington with mashed potatoes and broccolini, and chocolate mousse dessert.

If jazz music makes your heart skip a beat and smile with glee like it does to me, I highly recommend visiting Lonnie’s Reno Club. Lonnie only performs every Friday and Saturday night so make sure you get your reservation in advance!

Highlight #3: Comfortable beds and spacious rooms

I was very happy with how cozy and comfortable the beds were, I feel like I received a good night’s rest the entire stay. The room itself had a record player with select jazz records that set the tone for a relaxing weekend and ample space for me to feel like my belongings weren’t overcrowding me.

Would I recommend Ambassador Hotel Kansas City?

Yes. If you’re planning to go to a concert at the T-Mobile center or enjoy the weekend at Kansas City Power & Light, I highly recommend staying at this hotel. The hotel has enough to do in itself and leaves enough room to enjoy the rest of Kansas City!

Thank you for reading! Thank you Ambassador Hotel Kansas City for hosting me for a weekend!

Xoxo,

Gabriella
